After taking interviews of three shortlisted candidates, the governor has selected Das Mohapatra for the top job. He has 31 years of teaching experience and worked as PG council chairman of Sambalpur University. He has also 112 publications in his name, eight books and successfully guided 16 PhD scholars.
Das Mohapatra told TOI that he will try to improve the brand image of the university. “The open university has not received any NAAC accreditation. I will try to get good NAAC grade for my institution. I will also try to create a transparent, clean and open administration for better management of the university,” he added.
The professor said image of a university is important to attract students. “We will try to work on this aspect and create a brand name like IGNOU. After this, visibility of the university will be increased. Strong feedback system will be developed in the institution for its improvement,” he added.
He said value added courses will be launched for people especially youths of different categories. “We will also design courses for housewives and working women besides job oriented courses. I will try to speed up the work of permanent campus of the OSOU. We will request the state government to increase human resources for the institution,” he added.
On November 25 last year, the higher education department had issued advertisements for the post of vice chancellor of the Sambalpur University, Ravenshaw University and Odisha State Open University. Sanjiv Mittal was appointed as vice-chancellor of Sambalpur University for a period of four years.
Sources said the governor will select vice chancellors of the Ravenshaw University on Friday. In November last year, the Governor had selected VCs for six universities.
