LPG refill now a missed call away – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Tired of call dropping while wading through the options thrown up by the IVRS system for booking an LPG cylinder? Well, help is at hand. Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday launched a missed call service for ‘Indane’ customers anywhere in the country who can book their refill simply by giving a missed call to 8454955555.
Launching the marketing initiative by state-run IndianOil in Bhubaneshwar, Pradhan also unveiled a similar service for getting a new LPG connection for prospective consumers in Odisha’s capital and said it will soon be made available across the country.
Unlike the IVRS system, in which the call made by a registered consumer is chargeable, the missed call facility is toll-free. It is also faster than the IVRS system where consumers have to be on the call for longer duration to select the preferred language, options etc.
This sometimes proves difficult in cases where a customer is not familiar with the IVRs system, the voice is not clear due to connectivity issue or noisy surroundings as well as old age.
In the new system, consumers can simply call the number on-the-go and hang up once the bell rings at the other end.
Describing the initiative as one more example of the Narendra Modi government’s efforts to make things easier for people, Pradhan said only 13 crore LPG connections were given out in six decades before 2014. Against this, the Modi government has expanded the consumer base to 30 crore in its last six years.
