The school education department has allowed reopening of schools in the state for classes IX to XII from November 23. However, the BMC had asked schools to remain shut up to December 31 which it has now extended to January 15 next year. In a circular issued on Tuesday, BMC education officer, Mahesh Palkar said, “Even though the prevalence of the coronavirus is under control in the BMC’s jurisdiction, schools of all mediums and managements will remain shut up to January 15 considering the second wave of Covid-19 in other countries and the situation in other states in India.”
Consulate run schools will however be allowed to reopen on the Monday after January 15. “While we can tweak the academic schedules for local schools, we have no control over consulate schools. Schools have reopened in their respective countries and hence we have allowed them to reopen as well. A decision on when the other schools can reopen will be taken before January 15,” Palkar told TOI.
