YouTube has updated its terms of service, here’s what it means for you and the content creators – Times of India

YouTube has updated its policy and may not make content creators happy. YouTube will reportedly show ads on some channels but will not share ad-revenues with the channel owner. YouTube will mostly target creators who are not enrolled in its Partner Program. This means small content creators with less than 1000 subscribers will not get any ad- revenue from YouTube despite ads appearing on videos of these small creators.
“Starting today we’ll begin slowly rolling out ads on a limited number of videos from channels not in YPP. This means as a creator that’s not in YPP, you may see ads on some of your videos. Since you’re not currently in YPP, you won’t receive a share of the revenue from these ads, though you’ll still have the opportunity to apply for YPP as you normally would once you meet the eligibility requirements,” said YouTube.
This new policy will not affect big channels as they are already a part of the partner program. However, it may be quite frustrating for smaller channels to see ads appear on their video but no revenue from YouTube.
Meanwhile, for viewers YouTube has another new development that may ruin the user experience. YouTube will be rolling out audio-only ads. This means you will just see a simple animation or just some picture while the entire ad will be in the form of audio.
If you browse YouTube to take in the visceral spectacle of music videos or just like to cruise control through randomly autoplaying tunes, you may come across more sensical commercials than in times before. Marketers are getting beta access to two new ad verticals right now which focus on audio, not video. YouTube may also allow dynamic music lineups through which sponsors may “curate groups of music-focused channels based on artists, genres, or mood stations”, as per a report by Android Police.
