Delhi University Result: All open-book results not out, students suffer – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The strained relationship of Delhi University students with their online open-book examinations hasn’t ended. If it was access and technical drawbacks earlier, it is the results now. In fact, with the delay in publishing results, many students applying for master’s programmes are in a difficult situation.

An English (Hons) student of Miranda House may lose her chance of admission in Kolkata’s Presidency University. “The late date for applying there is November 14. With limited seats in most universities, we have to apply in several places, but our results aren’t out yet,” she despaired. Instead of Presidency, she may have to get her MA degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Ambedkar University, DU or Jadavpur University now.

Delhi University shouldn’t make this appear as an either/or situation. Issuing both error-free and time-bound results is a basic job of any university. The authorities should ensure that accurate results are released quickly, so that the students are able to apply for masters courses in time.

A history (Hons) student of Ramjas College, was in an equally piquant position. “For the postgraduate course in DU itself, we have been directed to upload our results. I don’t know what to do,” he said in bewilderment.

The results of English, political science, history, Hindi (Hons) BA and BCom Programme, law and some other courses are yet to be declared. According to D S Rawat, dean of examinations, the delay is because evaluation of some papers is still under way. He said, “It took a lot of time to sort out the answer scripts sent on emails, including zip files for which we had to contact students. And there are some papers that require two evaluators. A delay occurs in the online evaluation because only after one evaluator has seen the paper can the second access it.” Rawat was hopeful of declaration by this weekend or early next week.

The late declaration of results is not going to affect application for scholarships, forms for most of which need to be submitted by November third week, but also efforts to study abroad. As a Hindu College student protested, “I am depending on my results to apply for admission to study in British universities. I have enquired about the results a number of times, but no has any definite answers.”

The re-evaluation process too has come to a halt, the cell handing it having sent this message to students: “Revaluation is taking longer due to unavoidable circumstances. To be on the safer side, I advise you to fill the exam forms for the paper you had applied for revaluation. Whichever of the re-evaluation marks or those you get for appearing in the upcoming exams is favourable, opt for those.”
