My COVID story: I tested positive when my nephews came to live with us – Times of India

33-year-old Arjun Aneja left his Mumbai job to be with his family in Gurgaon, Haryana. But when his sister tested positive and his nephews moved in with him, the whole family except his dad tested positive shortly thereafter. But the family stayed together and fought the virus. Here is his COVID journey

I used to live in Mumbai for work untill the lockdown was announced. I had to leave everything, give up on my rented house as well as work and come back to Gurgaon where my family lived. So we (My dad – 64 years, mom – 59 years and my brother – 35 years) followed the lockdown rules religiously. We stepped out only to get essentials and my brother didn’t even step out much to get essentials.

My sister Alisha Aneja Madan (36 years) who is married in Naraina Vihar with her two sons woke up with fever one night and was tested positive the next day. The family decided that the kids should be sent away to safeguard them from catching infection and so were brought to us in Gurgaon (naani house) to be with us.

However, that turned out to be the worst decision as they were the carriers and showed symtoms the very next day and both were tested positive. I dropped them back to their mother since they were all positive and could stay together and could be taken care of by the family.

Meanwhile, my brother who barely stepped out of the house in 8 months developed symtoms the next morning. He had high fever and tested postive. The same night I woke up with fever and tested postive next day. I was immediately worried for my mother who selflessly looked after my nephews, me and my brother while they were down with fever. She would repeat one dialogue whenever I asked her to stay away from us, “Maaa ko kabhi kuch nahi hota”. She even did cold compress for my brother since his fever was not going even with the medicines (Dolo 650).

And in this whole process, my mom showed symtoms after 2 days when we were stable. She had mild fever and unfortunately we found out she had tested postive too.

Thankfully my dad tested negative and now he was more isolated than the 3 of us in the house. God was kind that we recovered in time – my sister, her kids, mom, brother and myself – we all tested negative.

So I believe this virus can enter your house in any manner. Be over cautious and unfortunately if it enters your house, don’t panic and accept it and take care of each other and yourself and spread love.

PS: The only positive thing that we took away from this struggle was that we love each other much more now and I would definitely take this opportunity to state here that my mom was no less a warrior. I love you mom! Thanks for fearlessly being their and taking care of us in these difficult times.
