Apple M1 Silicon Chip: Apple introduces the new M1 processor for Mac devices – Times of India

At its One More Thing event, Apple announced a new processor that will power its Mac range of computers. Called M1, the processor features an eight-core CPU and Apple claims it is the fastest CPU in the world.
The new M1 processor, as per Apple, is all about power efficiency. The eight-core CPU, according to Apple, gives the best performance per watt in a CPU. Comparing it other laptop CPUs, Apple said that the M1 chip draws 1/4th of power to deliver peak performance. The eight-core CPU is also paid with four high-efficiency cores. What the Apple processor will also do is allow iPhone and iPad apps to run on the Mac devices.
At the heart of the M1 is a 16-core Neural engine. Apple says the new processor will focus on power efficiency. It has an eight-core CPU, which Apple says offers the world’s best performance per watt of an CPU. Apple says it delivers the same peak performance as a typical laptop CPU at a quarter of the power draw. It says this has four of the world’s fastest CPUs cores, paired with four high-efficiency cores.
In terms of apps, Apple said that all of them have been optimised for the new M1 processor. Citing examples of popular apps, Apple said that Final Cut Pro can run six times faster on the M1 processor. Popular apps from Adobe like Lightroom and Photoshop will come later this year and early next year.
The new devices running on M1 processor will include a 13-inch MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac mini. More importantly, Apple hasn’t raised the prices of the Mac devices launched with the new M1 processor.
